Times of deep changes, like now, are generally perceived as paradoxical. In the business world is no different. This paper examines an apparent paradox, when companies are seeking to maximize their existing business models and simultaneously promoting innovations and transformations capable of generating new business. It also suggests possible adjustments to maximize the chances of successful businesses.
We know that the success of an organization depends on a careful assessment of the opportunities and risks of each strategy. Currently, this can be a complicated task, especially if we consider the difficulty of traditional models to respond to market instability and the growing strength of the digital business. In addition, the weakening of clear boundaries between the areas of IT and corporate leadership put new interests and opinions at the center of the board discussions.
In this environment, making better decisions is not simple. To successfully combine all the goals, we need to know how to balance different rhythms in operation within the same company and this in turn calls for a new type of organization and a new corporate leadership. Remember that this balance of different speeds is one of the issues addressed by Bimodal IT, a term coined by Gartner and discussed in another publication.
This new leadership should be able to go beyond the management of a single set of defined goals and targets and incorporate the function of cultural change promoter. This is the only way to create a culture that embraces and at the same time, drive the transformations inherent to the digital business. Furthermore, you should be able to promote and motivate multidisciplinary and multifunctional organizational structures.
To make it happen, new values must be incorporated by this leadership, such as the ability to inspire and motivate. Embrace the cultural transformation provided by the digital business appearance can help attract the talents appropriate to put a company at the forefront of new paradigms of leadership and success. Most importantly, however, is to create the conditions for these talents to work together, with a adaptive and collaborative manner, enabling innovations to bring the best results for the company.
